Parenting is a complex process that is deeply rooted in one’s culture, guided by personal values, influenced by received knowledge about child development, and shaped by experiences in one’s family of origin. Parenting workshops help parents better understand themselves and their children through informative and open discussions.
The workshops will encourage discussion of the meanings that parents attribute to their own childhood experiences, to their children’s behaviours and to explore parents’ emotional reactions to their children. The open dialogue will encourage parents to share their knowledge and develop tools to promote a secure attachment with their children. The workshops will provide parents basic child development information, help families support their children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, widen their social support networks, and link families with resources in the community.
