The Decolonial Study Group was founded in 2019 with colleagues in the US and in India. Monthly meetings were held where we discussed decolonial concepts and how to re-examine psychoanalytical theories, techniques and modalities that may perpetuate oppressive normative socio-cultural norms including race, caste, ethnicity, culture, gender and sexuality. We hope to create space to challenge our conceptualization and find ways of working with individuals, couples and families without splitting off the sociocultural political context we live in.
The Working Group on Decolonization of the Unconscious is a continuation of this initiative and was created in 2021 together with the International Association for Couple and Family Therapy (IACFP).
